Ada Is a Sweet Girl Who Loves People 8 year old, large, female, black and red, German Shepherd
Good with other dogs: Unknown
Good with cats: Unknown
Good with children: Yes
Ada is a large, senior girl, but she is incredibly sweet, gentle
and loving, and we really want this wonderful girl to find a loving home. Ada lost her home through
no fault of her own and would love nothing more than a loving, quiet home with people who are home most of the time to dote on her. This beautiful girlis housebroken and crate trained. And the best part is that she absolutely loves all people, especially kids! She seems to be fine with other respectful dogs too. It’s doubtful she’d be good with cats though as we’ve observed she has a high prey drive. She walks great on a leash and absolutely loves her daily walks. She’s well behaved and has a smile on her face and gets excited when it’s time to go for her walk. She’s also a talker, especially if you don’t get her dinner ready on time, which is so cute. Ada has Anal Fistula and needs daily medication as well as plenty of access to potty breaks. But she does great in a home where she would have access to a doggie door so she can go out on her own. She prefers to be crated when her people aren’t home; we’ve observed some anxiety when she’s left alone. And because she’s so darn sweet and loving, it would be great if she could have a family that works or home or is homemore oftenthan not. She does love to play, but she’s also content just hanging out by your side and watching Netflix. If you’re looking for a friendly, sweet companion to stay by your side and keep you company, Ada is your girl. Ghost: The Picture of Happiness and Love

11-year-old, white, large, male German Shepherd
Good with other dogs: Yes
Good with children: Yes
Good with cats: Unknown

What a gentle soul! Sweet senior Ghost is an absolute lover boy. He adores people of all ages
and all he wants out of life is love and attention and a soft bed. And who can blame him!

Poor Ghost was an owner surrender, and we found out shortly after taking him in that he had a
tumor that needed attention. Low and behold, that was one big tumor. It was about 10 pounds!
But luckily, it was benign, and Ghost has healed up and is a brand new man with an even better
personality since he’s in no pain now.

This boy is pretty funny. Just when you think you’re done petting him and loving on him, he
comes back for more. He just doesn’t want you to stop. He loves walks and short hikes with our
long-time fosters John and Deb. He gets along well with other dogs in the home too, although
he does tend to react on a leash to other dogs when walking.

If you want to see how much energy an 11-year-old can have, just get Ghost’s leash out! He
gets so excited! He also rides well in a car and loves taking trips. And this guy has been to some
of our events and just adores children. He also likes to hang out by an open door or window
and watch the birds as he enjoys being happy and relaxed, which is a joy to see.

If you’re looking for a gentle, mellow dog that just loves attention and people, then Ghost is
your guy! Please fill out our

Huntley: This Shy Boy Is Learning to LOVE Attention

1-year-old male, medium, Czech Shepherd mix
Good with other dogs: Unknown
Good with children: Unknown
Good with cats: Unknown

Sweet boy Huntley is looking for a patient, loving family to teach him how wonderful life can be as a
family pet!

We don’t know much about Huntley’s past, but we’re pretty sure he spent some time out on his own
foraging for food. Huntley is very, very sweet, but also shy. When he first came to rescue, we could
barely get him to leave his kennel. But with love and kindness from our volunteers, he’s shown that not
only does he love attention, this boy loves to play with toys too. He prefers the company of women and
seems to be particularly afraid of men, so his future family will need to be prepared to help him
overcome his fear of men.

Look at that adorable face, and he’s got the cutest head tilt to top it off. We aren’t sure if Huntley is
good with other dogs, so we’d recommend a meet and great in advance. Huntley will require patience
and love to help him learn how to be a beloved family member, so POSITIVE training is a must for this
boy. He’ll need help on his leash skills and commands to help build his confidence.

We don’t know if he’s good with children, but he’s a really sweet boy, so older, well-mannered children
that won’t scare him might be OK. And we think Huntley would do best in a quiet home that won’t
overwhelm him since he’s starting from scratch.

If you can give Huntley a love, indoor home, please fill out our

process started. We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. All staff members

Pretty Izzy was an owner surrender, but we really can’t figure out
why. This girl is an absolute gem. She does the cutest little dance down the hall
when following her foster mom! Izzy is a soft, fluffy girl, but she does have some allergy issues. Her foster mom has figured out she’s allergic to chicken based dry dog food. So, with a diet change, she’s doing great now and no more itching, so she’s a happy girl. She loves, and we mean LOVES, belly rubs. Anytime, anywhere, she’s ready for a good belly rub. She also has a cute way of doing a “downward dog” yoga pose when she greets you. This girl may have been left outside quite a bit as she still prefers to relax outside in the sun quite often. Izzy is housebroken, knows how to use the doggie door, doesn’t need to be crated and gets along great with all other dogs. She even knows how to sit like a lovely lady for her treats. If you can give Izzy an indoor, loving home, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. Jackie O is an easy going senior, and easy to care for girl. She is perfect for the person looking for a dog low key in energy. She has been the “house mother” at the rescue center. In this role she welcomes new dogs and people to the center.
She does so with her GSD bark to tell you she is there. She is head shy from abuse in her history, but when you gain her trust she is fine. Jackie is not a good candidate for the active or traveling family. She isn’t a big fan of the car, so best to be a “hang around the house” type of lifestyle.

Jackie O is a Love 4 Life dog, so we have a special program for adopters that might be willing to welcome her into their home under our Forever Foster. You can learn more about our Love 4 Life program on our website at http://www.savingpawsrescueaz.com/love-for-life-program/

Need a Running Partner? Jefke is Your Guy

4-year-old, male, large, Belgian Malinois mix Good with other dogs: Selective Good with children: No Good with cats: No We rescued Jefke from the local shelter many months ago. He’s a good looking Belgian Malinois mix of about 4 years old. He took an extended staycation with one of our wonderful fosters, but due to her work schedule and extended hours, he had to come back to the rescue. He was very protective of his home and didn’t welcome the dog sitters with open paws, so this may be an issue that needs to be worked through. He is a VERY active boy, and particularly loves the ball. He was running almost every day with his foster, and he gets so excited when he thinks he’s about to go on a run. He actually tries to put his own head through the slip lead! He knows several commands, knows how to use a dog door, loves toys, does well on a leash and is housetrained and crate trained. Jefke will need to be placed with a strong handler with some breed experience. We are looking for a home with no children or cats, as he may give chase. He may be OK with another dog given a proper introduction. If you have an active life and you think you have what it takes to bring Jefke into your home and heart, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. Special Needs: Khaleesi the Snuggle Bug
3-year-old, female, vision-impaired, black and tan German Shepherd

This beautiful girl was turned into the Apache Junction shelter as a stray and they contacted Saving Paws right away when staff members realized she was likely vision impaired.

Khaleesi is so looking for that perfect fit and someone understanding and willing to take time to come and gain her trust. Because of her vision impairment — she is blind in one eye, but the other eye is fine — she does tend to react to people and dogs that approach her kennel. Once she has your trust she is affectionate and wants to play. Here favorite is to grab a shoelace when you aren’t looking!

The vet feels that with her vision impairment being caused by a birth defect, she may be a little slower to react as well. She seems to get along with other large dogs upon proper introduction, but is a bit selective, so a meet and greet is a must for any potential adopter. She has been pretty good with younger dogs in her play group. Khaleesi is a strong girl that hasn’t had much training in her life, so she’ll need a patient, but strong handler who is willing to teach her how to be a proper young lady. We would even consider a foster to adopt for this girl if the right adopter came along. If you think you might be that right fit and willing to come and spend time getting to know Khaleesi, please fill out an application on our website at www.savingpawsrescueaz.org

Morgan the Mal Is a Playful, Sweet Girl Looking for Some Fun!

1 ½-year-old, female, medium, Belgian Malinois
Good with other dogs: Selective
Good with children: Older children
Good with cats: Unknown

Morgan is a beautiful, high-energy Mal who would love to find her forever home with an active
person or family with older children. If you’re familiar with the Belgian Malinois, you know they
have a high level of energy and are very intelligent, which Morgan definitely is.

Morgan has been going through training with Ryan at The Barking Dog in Scottsdale and now
walks beautifully on a leash and knows several commands. She has made lots of progress with
her training and is a very well-behaved girl now.

This young girl is wary of strangers, but once she gets to know you, she develops a real
attachment and is very sweet and cuddly. But most of all, her favorite activity is to play tug,
which is a great outlet for her typical Mal energy. She also enjoys playing ball and has a high ball
drive, which likely means she wouldn’t be good with cats or small dogs.

This gorgeous girl would be ideal for a family with previous Malinois experience. She’ll need lots
of physical and mental exercise to keep her happy, and she would really enjoy a daily run or
hike. She will also need to continue her training, since she’s still a very young girl that will easily
learn how to channel her energy with continued, positive obedience training.

Nettie’s Sweet Spirit Shines Through

6-7-year old, large, blonde, female, German Shepherd
Good with other dogs: Selective
Good with children: Unknown
Good with cats: Unknown

Nettie, through no fault of her own, recently came back to the rescue and her adopter was absolutely heartbroken, as were all the volunteers who fell in love with this girl. Unfortunately, her adoptive family had a medical emergency out of the country with no estimated time of return. Poor Nettie was settling in so nicely at her home. But, she’s in good spirits now after lots of love from our volunteers, who just adore this beautiful, sweet girl.

She is an incredibly easy dog if you’re looking for a lower-energy, easy-going, but affectionate companion. Nettie is so sweet and just wants to be with her people. She absolutely loves affection and will cuddle with you, but also lays down nicely in her dog bed for naps. She walks well on a leash, but does react a bit to other dogs, although we think that could be easily corrected with training. She is selective in choosing her doggie companions, so we suggest a meet-and-greet with any potential adopters’ dogs.

Nettie is also very quiet, not a big barker. She adapts quickly to being a very happy house dog. She’s not bothered at all by loud noise and is generally a very easy-going girl. She would be an ideal companion for a calm family or even a single adult. We don’t know whether she’s good with children or not, but it’s likely she’d be fine with respectful children given her sweet nature.

This girl does have some skin issues that we’re working on. She has been scratching and chewing, and we’re working hard to get her skin back to a beautiful, healthy state. She has a bit of weakness in her back leg, but is doing very well and gets around just fine.

Nosey is Full of Life and Ready for Fun in the Sun

She is a 1 1/2 year old, female, small, black-and-tan German Shepherd. Nosey is such a little cutie pie! This young, energetic girl came to us very thin and looking a bit sad. But she is such a sweetheart that we HAD to save her! Nosey is a real people pleaser, which is adorable to watch. She has been working with expert trainer at The Barking Dog in Scottsdale and he reports that she is a wonderful student. When Nosey first came to us, we quickly learned that she was very reactive to other dogs. But in stepped Ryan to work with her, and we are SO proud of our girl and all the progress she’s made. She’s been hanging out in play groups with other dogs and has learned wonderful doggie manners. In addition, Ryan has worked with her on obedience, and she’s now a well-behaved doggie. She does still react through fences, but once she gets up close to the other dogs, she just wants to play! We recommend dogs that are larger breed and not dominate for her playmates. Small dogs and cats are not recommended for this active girl.

This girl is high energy and needs an active family that could provide plenty of physical and mental exercise, as well as continual positive obedience training. Now that’s she’s got the basics down, we think she’d do great learning agility or other dog sports. She loves to work her nose on the ground checking out everything so a walker and hiker partner would be perfect. We would recommend older children since she’s rambunctious and active and may knock down little ones.

If you can give Nosey an indoor home, you must fill out our online application to get the approval process started. We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. Our beautiful Nova is still looking for her furever home! Nova was rescued from the local shelter. Nova has been with us for a while as she needs a special home and we just haven’t found the PERFECT fit we are looking for.

Nova is about 4 years old. Nova prefers to be a one person dog. She picks her person and they are the love of her life. The other side is she doesn’t like to share her person, so we believe Nova should be an only dog so that she doesn’t feel the need to share her person or stuff with another dog. We don’t know how she will be with cats, but given what we know an only pet home might just be the best for her. She wants to be with her special person all the time, so her new person will need to work on establishing boundaries for Nova. Nova is very athletic and can jump pretty high. She is not crate trained, but she does know her bed and can be given a command to go to her bed. She is housebroken. She enjoys toys, and can amuse herself with them. She’s has medium energy level. Her ideal home is a quiet home preferably with a female owner (or a male with lots of patience and understanding) .

We don’t believe that she would be best with children as she can bark at those who are not her special person. She would do best in a home were someone is home a lot and can give her the attention she craves. She will need some practice on her leash skills as she is not going on walks regularly since she will only go with her special person. We are looking for an adopter who would be willing to come and visit with Nova over a period of time and get to know her and earn her trust, therefore living near our center in North Glendale area would be best or a willingness to travel. We won’t be adopting her out of the county. She is special, but we know a perfect home is out there. We would really love to see Nova get the home she is looking for but also know that matching her with a right fit is the most important thing we can do for her. If you think you can open your home and heart to this deserving girl, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started.

Sassy is an 11 month old Belgian Malinois. You don’t have to ask this girl to go twice. She is active and ready to go. Saving Paws Rescue is committed to placing these dogs in homes that are able to meet the needs of the breed. Most of these dogs are not suitable for the average family pet home. They need high mental and physical exercise. Sassy will require a home that has previous malinois owner/handler experience.

Sassy can do well with equally active dogs, but not senior, small dogs or cats for this girl. She is a rough play and expects that back from her playmates. She aims to please so when you are working with her she is ready to go. Obedience and leash training a must. Additional work/dog sports ( nose, SAR, agility, Rally) would be GREAT. We are working on her house breaking, but in a kennel it is hard to do, so some initial work on housebreaking may be necessary, but this girl is S.M.A.R.T so shouldn’t take but a few days at all.

Sassy will not be placed in a home with small children. As is common for the breed, jumping, nipping and racing around are behaviors that can place a small child at risk. Older teens or no children in the home would be ideal.

This girl is fun, busy and faster than lightning. If you have the ability to keep up and meet the requirements for adopting a malinois, you can complete the application at http://www.savingpawsrescueaz.com/adoption-form/

We are an all-volunteer organziation, so please allow us 5 days to process your application. Many of us have families, jobs and our own dogs/foster dogs. Thank you for looking to save a life.

Zoey is a 1 year old GSD. That means she has LOTS of energy and needs room to run. She was found as a stray and all attempts to find an owner have come up empty, so we are committed to finding her a perfect forever home. She is a very sweet, smart and loving dog – we know little of her first year of life but suspect she spent lots of time crated. Zoey would be best in a home with someone home quite a bit and where there are older children. She is a big girl and easily could knock a younger child down. She needs help in controlling her energy, so obedience classes to work on her confidence, leash skills and general obedience are a must. This is true of any adolescent GSD. When leashed she tends to bark at other dogs, but is fine in the confines of a dog park per her foster. She does not seem to like small dogs so we would also not recommend cats. Zoey needs an experienced GSD handler who can give her the structured life she will thrive in – mental and physical exercise.
